Brunches

Brunches is a cross between breakfast and lunch born because Sunday is, for many people, the only leisurely day in the week.

To many, especially those who like to sleep late, these informal combinations of breakfast and lunch blend the best of both.

The appointed hour is 11:00 AM.

The menu, too, generally includes something typical of breakfast and lunch. The starter might be tomato juice, perhaps as a Bloody Mary; bullshots (beef bouillon and vodka for the uninitiated) are also favorite brunch beginners.

Cereals and salads are both rarities, but main dishes often include (from breakfast) scrambled eggs with bacon, ham sausages or kippers and (from lunch) creamed chicken or seafood on toast.
Desserts are breakfast sweets: waffles, pancakes, sweet rolls, doughnuts, coffee cake and Danish pastry.
