Esther Hooi

For 43 years now Eshter Hooi has been doing radio broadcasting with heart and soul.

"I am 62 years old, and I love my job".

Back in time, in 1968, working for Radio Hoyer, Esther presented a popular show called "Bel of schrijf Radio Hoyer 2, en wij stellen u tevree". Esther: "I am very thankful for mr. Hoyer, because he gave me my first opportunity to work at the radio".

Then it was about time to start working for Television. For Telecuraçao, Esther presented a program for children in the afternoon, and was announcing special program's in the evening. Together with mr. Angel Job "El Gordito de Oro", she presented a musical show with local and international artists in "Show di Job".

In 1973 a Dutch Broadcasting Company (TROS) asked her to present a music show with musicians from the Netherlands Antilles and Suriname.

Esther has a beautiful, clear and relaxing voice, that fits perfectly with her positive easy-going personality. She is very proud of her daughter Caresse. Esther: "She looks a lot like me when I was young". Esther is now married for 35 years. "My husband is a sweet man and has a real good appetite. I was 24 years old when we got married in Puerto Rico". Esther's main hobby is gardening. She loves to travel, and has visited quite some other places around the world.

In the past Soul Sister-period, Esther loved musicians like Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, Same & Dave, and Percy Sledge. What is her favorite music now? "I love Ballads, Salsa Music: Marc Anthony, Celia Cruz q.e.p.d., and Oscar d'Leon. I like most of the local bands. For me its important that a song has some content. My shows are not only about playing records. It is also informative. I am an inquisitive person, and I like to know what is going on around me. I keep myself well informed so I can give my listeners updated local and international news. I have a good life, and I do not like to get attached to material things". Although Esther has a busy life and sometimes has not much time left to spend with her friends, she has friends she can rely on.

Esther business career has been: Radio Hoyer - Telecuraçao - Radio Hoyer - Radio Exito - Z FM - and Radio Krioyo.
